I was so excited when fellow NCSU Design grad and incredibly talented designer Samantha Bratzke asked me to photograph her 2019 Art 2 Wear collection. Titled ‘Psychogenic,’ her line focuses on sustainability in the fashion industry, with each piece being made up of ‘non-traditional materials and biodegradable fibers.’ Plastic was prominently used throughout, as she chose to take something with a negative environmental connotation and turn it into art. Sam knew that the backdrop for these photos needed to match up to the uniqueness of each piece, and her location choice did not disappoint. For this shoot, we went to the metal scrapyard, and were able to create some really unique and industrial images that played on her concept of waste and the importance of sustainability.
